Toledo Institute for Development and Environment was founded in the southern state of Toledo to promote conservation, protection, and monitored development of the natural areas in southern Belize.
TIDE was founded by Wil Maheia in 1995 and this premier organization has many accomplishments under its belt:
- Creation and management of Payne’s Creek National Park
- Creation and management of Port Honduras Marine Preserve
- Development of the Private Protected Lands Program
- Numerous educational outreach activities
- Numerous partnership and team building programs
